Day 5

5 Jan

Day 5/With her sista from another mista:

I’ve been Cate’s (the baby with hair) nanny since both she and Olive were 3 months-old. Because of this, and the fact that they have everything in common as they are only 5 days apart (born at the same hospital, too!), they have no other choice than to be the best of friends. Honestly, I can’t think of another job (really, ANY other job on earth) that beats the job that I have. Having been able to watch the two of them grow older together,  from the earliest stages of infancy to the walking, talking toddlers they are rapidly turning into, has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

In this photo, the girls are hanging out at their favorite spot: by the back door. It’s surrounded by garbage/recycling bins and the coat hooks and there’s always something back there to get into. They like to stand and lean against the door, yelling their baby jibberish at each other and enjoying the sound of their words bouncing off of the glass. Olive loves to kiss her reflection and lately has started to lick the cold glass. My little weirdo.
Anyway, in this picture they are fighting over a hat that my mother-in-law brought Olive back from Iceland. It’s wooly and has little tassels with beads covering it and the girls have taken a liking to sucking on them.**
I don’t know who won the fight, but later Olive threw up on the hat and so now it’s off to laundry land.

**Before anyone lectures me on the potential choking hazard the crazy bead hat presents, let me just say that the beads are about half the size of a pea and are knotted onto the tassels. Just sayin’.

    too cute.
You really are very blessed to *have* two children, but only have one.
My friend had her little girl the same day as my little boy was born. 4 hours apart in the same hospital and all! They have such a special bond and now so do we because of them! it’s like a double blessing. 🙂

Oh, I know it! It’s been so much fun to watch them reach their milestones together and now that they’re entering toddlerhood together, it’s especially fun to watch them interact and play together.

Bwahaha… Your title caught me off guard at first. How fun to have the two of them so close! Cute capture!

One of my most favourite of favourite jobs was working with children and most especially being a nanny to a newborn. LOVED it. I didn’t love every single day but I honestly can’t remember the bad days now.

I think with any job (or even just being a mother in and of itself) there are great days and horrible days and days of every nature in between, but I think being a nanny (and a mother!) is by FAR the most rewarding. You’re right that you seem to forget the seldom “bad” day pretty quickly.
